The Problem with Most "Free" Quote Tools
Most online quote-checking and pricing tools have a catch: you have to enter your email, phone number, or both before you can see anything useful. The reason is that those tools are not actually free — they are funded by selling your contact information to contractors as paid leads. The "free" service is your contact info, paid for in calls and emails.
Angi, HomeAdvisor, Thumbtack, and Networx all use this model. After you submit, your phone starts ringing within hours and continues for weeks.
If you only want to know whether a quote is reasonable, this is a high price to pay for that information.
How Woogoro Works Without Email
Woogoro's analyzer takes two inputs:
- A copy of your contractor quote (PDF, photo, or pasted text)
- The city the work will be done in
That's it. The analysis happens against pre-built pricing benchmarks for your city, scope-of-work standards for the trade, and pattern-matching for common red flags in contractor proposals. No contractor needs to be contacted for the analysis to run, so no contact info is needed.
Pricing benchmarks come from Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data and Bureau of Economic Analysis cost-of-living indices, applied to industry-standard pricing models. The methodology is documented on the methodology page.
What the Analysis Tells You
- Price check. Where the quote falls in the local price range for your city, vertical, and project size. Below average, above average, or excessive.
- Scope check. Whether standard items for the trade are included or missing. For roofing this includes tear-off, underlayment, flashing, ventilation, disposal. For HVAC: refrigerant, electrical work, ductwork inspection, permits. Missing scope items often appear as change orders later.
- Red flag check. Concerning fine print like high deposits (over 30%), unusually long warranty exclusions, or vague material specifications.
- Questions to ask. Specific follow-up questions for the contractor based on what was unclear or missing in the quote.
What It Cannot Do
Honest disclosure of what a no-contact analyzer cannot do:
- Does not negotiate for you. The output is information you use in your own conversation with the contractor.
- Does not verify the contractor's license or reviews. Use your state's contractor licensing board and Google Maps reviews for that.
- Does not guarantee the work. Woogoro doesn't broker the contract; the relationship is between you and your contractor.
- Cannot account for conditions not described in the quote. If your quote says "standard install" and the actual job requires unusual access or hidden damage, the analyzer will not catch what isn't disclosed.
How to Use It
Three ways to use Woogoro depending on where you are in your project:
- Have a quote already. Upload it to the quote analyzer. 30 seconds, free, no contact info.
- Have multiple quotes. Use the side-by-side comparison tool to evaluate them against each other on price, scope, and transparency.
- Don't have a quote yet. Use the estimate tool to get a budget range for your project before contacting any contractors.
