How to compare electrical quotes correctly

Electrical quotes hinge on scope details most homeowners don't read closely. A panel upgrade quote might include or exclude the meter base, grounding rods, permit, and inspection — and the difference is often $1,500+. Wire gauge and breaker count also drive material cost.

Ask whether GFCI and AFCI breakers are included where code now requires them. Many cheap quotes use standard breakers and leave you failing inspection. Grounding upgrades, smoke detector tie-in, and panel labeling are also commonly dropped from low bids.

Compare total cost against amp rating, permit inclusion, and warranty length. A licensed electrician should always pull a permit for panel work — no exceptions.
