How to compare concrete quotes correctly

Concrete quotes vary on thickness, reinforcement, and sub-base — things you can't see after the pour. A 3-inch slab with no rebar and a 4-inch slab with rebar and fiber mesh are very different products, even at the same square footage.

PSI rating matters. 3000 PSI is minimum for driveways in cold climates; 4000 PSI is smarter. Sub-base prep (compacted gravel) prevents heaving and cracking more than any other single factor.

Compare finish type, control joint spacing, sealant inclusion, and cure time expectations. Stamped and exposed aggregate finishes add significant labor cost — make sure the finish is spelled out.

Most important fields to compare

  • Thickness (inches)
  • Reinforcement (rebar/wire mesh/fiber)
  • PSI rating
  • Sub-base prep & compaction
  • Forming
  • Finish (broom/stamp/exposed)
  • Control joint spacing
  • Sealant included
